The classic musical “Guys and Dolls” will open 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 3 at Arizona Broadway Theatre, 7701 W. Paradise Lane.

“Guys and Dolls,” with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, premiered on Broadway in 1950. It ran for 1,200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical has had several revivals, plus a 1955 film starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons and Frank Sinatra.

“Grab your fedora and join Nathan Detroit as he tries to establish the biggest craps game in town, deal with his long-time girlfriend’s desire for marriage (‘Adelaide’s Lament’), and convince fellow gambler Sky Masterson to finance his venture (‘Luck Be a Lady’),” an ABT news release states. “Featuring the classic songs ‘Sit Down,’ ‘You’re Rockin’ the Boat’ and ‘A Bushel and a Peck,’ the return of ‘Guys and Dolls’ to the ABT stage is a long-awaited must see.”

Arizona Broadway Theatre debuted in the fall of 2005 by two working New York City based actors, and is led by Kiel and Cassandra Klaphake, the founders and executive & artistic producers of ABT.

Over the past 14 seasons, ABT has grown to become the highest attended year-round live theatre in the Valley.
