Swing Kings slate 5 fall concerts

The AZ Swing Kings have announced a fall and winter schedule that features performances throughout the West Valley.

The AZ Swing Kings are a 19-piece big band, including a vocalist. The group consists of professional all-star musicians who play the authentic sounds of the famous bands who represented the swing and jazz eras.

The band is directed by Lenny King, former creator and leader of the Chicago Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra. The Swing Kings are available to provide music for shows, dances and entertainment for public and private events. The band is now booking dates for 2017-2018. Call 623-388-4858.

Upcoming performance dates:

  • 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7: “The Great American Songbook and All That Jazz” at Ventana Lakes Yacht Club, 10874 W. Chino Drive, Sun City. The concert will feature vocalist Vito Maynes, who will perform in the style of Frank Sinatra. The Great American Songbook is a term used to describe the music from the era of the most important influential American popular songs of the 20th century.

Tickets cost $15 for residents, $18 for non-residents.

  • 5-7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27: “Big Band Jazz and Swing” at Birt’s Bistro, 16752 N. Greasewood St., Surprise. Cover is $5. For information, call 623-584-0065.
  • 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4: “Salute to Veterans,” USO-style show at Gateway Park, 10100 N. El Mirage Road, El Mirage. The free concert will feature “Bob Hope” impersonator Lynn Roberts. For information, call 623-876-2942.
  • 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5: Concert at Willowbrook United Methodist Church, 19390 N 99th Ave., Sun City. Admission is $5. For information, call 623-388-4858.
  • 7-9 p.m. Tuesday,  Nov. 21: “A Tribute to Bob Hope & the Radio Stars of the 1940s” at Theater Works at Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, 8355 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria. The concert will feature celebrity impersonator Lynn Roberts. Tickets cost $25. For information, call 623-388-4858.
