ELECTION: Reader supports Knecht

Legislative District 21 voters have an opportunity for real change in the upcoming race for State Senate.

Kathy Knecht is a proven leader and an independent thinker. Her belief in people over politics is exactly what we need right now. She will welcome input from all sides.

Kathy’s decisions will not be based on what is considered “right” for Republicans or Democrats, conservatives or liberals, red or blue. They will be based on what is right for LD 21 and the state of Arizona, especially on the subject of appropriate and necessary funding for K-12 education.

I believe her knowledge and expertise with this issue as a Peoria school board member for 12 years puts her head and shoulders above her opponent, Rick Gray.

I believe Mr. Gray’s record on K-12 district funding is abysmal. Arizona ranks in the top 5 states for which private school voucher funding has hurt regular K-12 school funding.Mr. Gray supports vouchers. He favors the much less accountable charter schools as well, and his stated support for our children’s public education is unsupported by any real indicators.

Voting in favor of teacher raises only after 50,000 public school supporters marched on the state capital is hardly a stunning example of support. A vote for Mr. Gray will result in just more of the same.

Vote for real change. Vote for people over politics. Vote for Kathy Knecht!
