OPINION: Sun Cities residents do pay taxes

Regarding the comments by the person trying to make us feel ashamed (“Sun Cities residents should be ashamed,” Sun City Independent, Aug. 1, 2018), your jealousy of us Sun Citians brought me to comment on your mistaken idea we pay no taxes.

We are located on a Maricopa County island. Look it up. As part of our real estate taxes we owners pay a good amount each year in county school taxes, for Maricopa Community Colleges (so your children can go to community college at a highly discounted rate of instate tuition when they finish high school). Look it up.

If you live in Westbrook you are over 55, therefore do not have K-12 age children living in your home. I used to work at Westbrook offices and know it is an over 55 community, unless that has recently changed. Real estate costs far exceed most of Sun City’s costs per square foot. You should be ashamed trying to make us feel bad. What’s your beef, exactly?
