Lambin: History says home checks not detriment in Sun City

In response to Charlene Baltes remarks and concerns (“Are house checks a good idea?” Sun City Indepeneent, May 8, 2019) regarding the Sun City Posse conducting vacation watches, we have never in our many years of service to our residents had an issue with checking a home and the residence being robbed after our visit.

Bad guys that are in Sun City looking for a home to rob do not need to watch for a Posse car or a Posse person to look for a “target house.” On any given day in June, July and August anyone can drive our streets and can pick out dozens of homes that are empty. That is just the nature of our residents. They love our climate in the winter months but go back to their other homes when our summer heat becomes unbearable. Robbers know that many of our homes are empty in the summer. They don’t need the Posse to show them the way.

Residents enjoy the fact that we are making sure their homes are secure and are confident that if there is a problem we will notify them immediately. If required, law enforcement is also called. We make sure that any problem is resolved right then and there.

Plain clothes Posse? I think not. If a person not in uniform was walking around my neighbor’s home they would receive a call from me immediately asking who was prowling around their home. Seeing our Posse cars and Posse people around a neighborhood may deter the “bad guys.” That certainly is what we hope for!
