GUNS: Violence is fault of user, distribution

Conservative Pro-lifers in our nation regard abortion as murder and often consider birth control as wrong.

They state that a fetus is a human life, to be cherished, and view it their duty to protect and defend the fetus’s right to be born. These same people cherish and defend ownership of guns, thereby allowing and even enabling the ongoing murder of humans by unstable and criminal elements within our nation.

This dichotomy of belief implies that once born, babies, children and adults are subject to the dangers of armed unstable and criminal elements, somehow life suddenly becoming less important, less worthy of being cherished and defended.

Our Second Amendment right is indeed important. There are indeed reasons for some people in our country to possess guns, including farmers and rural areas needing guns on-site to defend against wild animals, companies needing on-site security, participation in hunting “sport” and personal home protection. But our country remains the “wild west” because there remain 300 million guns floating out there, ready to be used on us by the bad guys. Though never the fault of the tool, use of a gun to murder is the fault of the user. By extension, it is also the fault of making these tools too available. Just as one should not allow a table saw to be used by a child, as a nation we have the same responsibility to prevent criminal and unstable elements from possessing arms to kill with, denigrating and tarnishing our Second Amendment right. Intelligent true Americans know the Second Amendment is not just a right, but comes with an inherent responsibility to safely implement that right.

The problem is not the Second Amendment, a tool intended to maintain our safety and freedom. The problem lies squarely with a people’s and a government’s lack of responsible implementation of that right. Times have changed, Arms have changed, but the government procrastinates, pontificates and makes excuses for doing nothing to continue to responsibly implement our Second Amendment. As a consequence, private ownership of automatic and semi-automatic weapons for mass murder continues irresponsibly. This inaction is costing American lives at an ever increasing rate. This irresponsible inaction makes our government and all of us accomplices to mass murder gun crimes.

Our children are not safe, not in schools, not in movie theaters, not at concerts, not at shopping malls and not in our streets. The current solution? More guns. A loaded hand gun in the hands of teachers, locked in a drawer, or on a security guard, becalmed by months of inaction, will not stop a determined maniac with an AR-15 from taking our children! Do we want our children to live in bunkers or prisons, not safe to go out for recess? Do we all want to become the Middle East, where life is treated as cheap? No! This is the plan of a coward, afraid to anger the NRA, not a plan to keep us safe. Not a real solution for preventing wholesale slaughter with automatic and semi-automatic weapons of war. Our forefathers, who fought so dearly and carefully created the beautiful structure we call our Constitution, would be ashamed of us now.
