Freid takes late lead to win Week 3 honors

Keegan Freid won for a superlative performance in a loss.

The Sunrise Mountain senior quarterback finished completed 19 of 35 passes for 310 yards and five touchdowns and two interceptions, along with 24 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown in the Mustangs’ 49-43 loss Aug. 31 at rival Liberty.

Freid finished with 429 votes to win the Week 3 player of the week award. In the poll, he pulled away late from Shadow Ridge senior tailback Julian Toles, who had 369 votes.

Toles had 134 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the Stallions’ 48-0 victory against Phoenix North.

Valley Vista sophomore receiver Nygel Bridges placed third with 167 votes. He caught three passes for 88 yards two touchdowns in the Monsoon’s 62-7 rout of Phoenix Trevor Browne.

For the third straight year, player of the week honorees, including Freid, will win more than bragging rights.

Nearly 1,180 votes were cast.
