Nearly 1,300 votes were cast in 12 days for the West Valley Preps Boys Athlete of the Year Award.

Deer Valley senior post player Bryce Davis joined Skyhawks senior soccer goalie Hayden Wallace, the girls’ athlete of the year, in the winners’ circle.

Davis picked up 549 votes to claim the award.

The Skyhawks’ four-year starter is deciding where to play in college.  He led Deer Valley in scoring and rebounding as the team reached the 5A state finals.

Liberty senior wrestler Miles Nuessle placed second with 381 votes. He won his third straight state wrestling title, claiming the 195-pound crown in Division II.

Nuessle will wrestle for Lindenwood University in Missouri.

Ironwood junior wrestler Tarik Sutkovic finished third with 259 votes. He is on the same path as Nuessle, with state titles in his sophomore and junior years.

Sutkovic transferred to Ironwood this year from Phoenix Thunderbird. He completed an undefeated 47-0 season en route to the Division II 220-pound title.
