Copley holds on for player of the week honor

Sunrise Mountain junior receiver Kyle Copley is your week 8 football player of the week after holding off several competitors.

In the Mustangs’ 50-24 win at Ironwood Sept. 28, Copley finished with eight catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. He finished with 246 votes – of  a total of 650 votes cast – to win the award.

In his first game playing for Willow Canyon after transferring from Copper Canyon, senior fullback/linebacker Connor Ball made an instant impression. He finished second with 188 votes

In the Wildcats 25-7 win against Independence, Ball had 16 carries for 167 yards and a touchdown, plus 11 tackles.

Liberty junior quarterback Jonah Guevara placed third with 106 votes for his dual-threat performance in a 56-20 win at Mountain Ridge.

That night, Guevara completed 11 of 12 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns and added two rushing touchdowns.

For the third straight year, player of the week honorees, including Copley, will win more than bragging rights.
