Officials reported minor injuries during an accident along a Northwest Valley highway this morning that caused a gas spill.

At about 10 a.m., crews responded to a major gas spill and vehicle on fire near the Grand Avenue-Bell Road bridge on Grand Avenue-U.S. 60 near Bell Grande Drive.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says a collision occurred between a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.

The truck started leaking gas, DPS spokesman Bart Graves said in an email. The roadway was blocked as crews clear the scene but reopened before noon.

A hazmat crew from the Arizona Department of Transportation responded to the incident, along with the Surprise Fire-Medical Department.

The driver of the passenger vehicle sustained minor injuries, Mr. Graves said. The truck driver was not hurt.

The Surprise Police Department is also working an accident between Bell and Litchfield roads along Grand Avenue, according to a public information officer.
