Todd Skinner of the Chuckwagon Restaurant at the Happy Trails Resort has been named one of 10 regional winners in the Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest from General Mills Foodservice.
Mr. Skinner won $5,000 and another $1,000 to go to a local charity he chose, K-9 Connection, which rescues animals and place them for adoption.

Surprise Fire-Medical offers CERT training
The Surprise Fire-Medical Department is offering free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training for residents interested in volunteering in an emergency or disaster situation 6 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 17 and Sept. 24, Thursdays Sept. 19 and Sept. 26 and 8 a.m. Saturdays Sept. 21 and Sept. 28 at Surprise Fire-Medical Administration Building 14250 W. Fry’s grocery donates to police department
Fry’s grocery store 15215 N. Cotton Lane, recently donated 48 cases of water to the Surprise Police Department. The water will be used by the department’s Explorer post during their events and competitions. Call the Police Department at 623-222-4000.

El Mirage Fire Department, 13601 N. El Mirage Road, reminds residents about safety during monsoon season. The departments recommends residents keep their landscaping trimmed to prevent damage from falling or blowing branches, stay indoors during storms, keep curbs clean to allow water to flow freely down the street, have fresh batteries and flashlights on-hand and to keep phone batteries charged.
