Surprise Community: Prasada parcels among items on P&Z agenda

Two parcels of the Toll Brothers at Prasada development are up for debate at the next Surprise Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, set for 6 p.m. Thursday, July 18 at City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza.

Consideration of rezoning 2-1/2 acres of property on the southwest corner of Bell and Dysart roads from regional commercial to industrial performance is also on the agenda.

Salvation Army reaffirms cooling stations

Surprise’s branch of The Salvation Army is reminding residents it is a cooling station location with highs reaching the 110s. Residents can sit in a cool place with water at the Sun Cities West Valley Corps Community Center, 17420 N. Avenue of the Arts Blvd. The heat relief station will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on any day the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning.

Peoria man found dead in Surprise crash

An investigation is underway after at a man was killed in a rollover in Surprise. The Surprise Police Department responded to a collision near Happy Valley and Citrus roads on July 10 after a resident reported seeing a vehicle lying upside down near the roadway. Officers and firefighters located Nathan Harris, 34, of Peoria, a short distance from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles or individuals appeared to be involved with the rollover.

Surprise food drive continues through July 22

The Maricopa County Library District is continuing its summer food drive through Monday, July 22. Surprise residents can bring donated food items to the Northwest Regional Library branch, 16089 N. Bullard Ave. Items needed include peanut butter and jelly, mac and cheese, tuna fish, cereal and canned vegetables. Click here for more information.

Red Cross blood drive in Surprise

The Red Cross is hosting a Surprise blood drive to help summer stockpiles. It’s set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23 at the Northwest Regional Library. Check for schedule, or call 800-733-2767.
