Litchfield Park man accused of murder in wife’s 2015 death

PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a Litchfield Park man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife two years ago.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials announced Wednesday that 53-year-old Elias Udechime is jailed on a $500,000 bond on suspicion of second-degree murder.

It’s unclear if he has an attorney yet.

Sheriff’s officials say Udechime called authorities around 5 a.m. on Sept. 24, 2015 to say he found his 39-year-old wife Chinonye in bed, not breathing and cold to the touch.

He also told sheriff’s investigators his wife had taken medicine the night before and made suicidal thoughts.

The county medical examiner ruled Chinonye Udechime’s death a homicide in June 2016.

An autopsy report shows she died by asphyxiation by strangulation and had a sedative and a muscle relaxant in her system.
