Arizona man arrested in Washington in wife’s disappearance

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — An Arizona man has been arrested in Washington state in connection with the disappearance and presumed death of his wife more than three decades ago, authorities said Wednesday.

Chandler police said Kevin Jokumsen, 53, was being held in the King County Jail awaiting extradition to Arizona after being arrested Aug. 31 by Auburn, Washington police on suspicion of second-degree murder.

It was unclear if he has a lawyer yet.

Jokumsen was indicted in the case earlier this year by Maricopa County authorities after Chandler police investigators said there was no evidence that Donna Mae Jokumsen was still alive.

According to Chandler police, the 22-year-old woman was last seen on July 5, 1987.

Two days earlier, she telephoned her father in Washington state to say she was returning home with her two children but never arrived.

She was reported missing on July 11, 1987.

Chandler police went to the family’s home and found Kevin Jokumsen and both children.

He told police that his wife was going back to Washington because she didn’t like the Arizona summer heat, but had no idea where she was.

According to a police report, Kevin Jokumsen showed no emotion and didn’t appear worried about his wife.

The report also said Donna Mae Jokumsen’s friends and co-workers said she allegedly had been physically abused by her husband and he knew she was leaving him.
