A local Sun City West real estate agent posted on a private website that furniture from one of her listings had recently been stolen from a vacant house overnight.  Additionally, she found other household items in the garage which appeared to be staged for a later pickup.

Many residents posted on the site they had heard of homeless people living in vacant houses.

When contacted by the Independent the real estate agent asked not to be identified and shortly thereafter the posting was withdrawn.

Capt. Frank McWilliams, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office District 3 commander, said he spoke with his detective supervisor and sheriff’s officials have not seen a sudden rise is burglaries in the area, nor have they encountered a situation where a homeless person was living in a vacant residence.

“My advice this time of year is to sign up for the vacation watch and let your neighbors know when your leaving and returning and whether anyone should be at their home while they’re gone,” Mr. McWilliams  said.  “And for those staying here for the summer, please do not hesitate to call MCSO if you see or hear something out of the ordinary,” he added.
