A man believed to be the “Chedda Bandit” and his getaway driver were arrested after a series of robberies in Peoria and Phoenix between May and June.
On June 7, the Peoria Police Department and members of the FBI Phoenix Violent Crime Task Force arrested Brian Matthew Wertz, 25, who authorities believe to be responsible for the “Chedda Bandit” bank robbery series.
Shantel Marie Poisson, 22, was also arrested Thursday. She was found to be involved in the robbery series, acting as a getaway driver. Both suspects were arrested for felony armed robbery. Additional charges may follow.
Mr. Wertz is being held on $50,000 of bonds and fines. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 14 at 8:30 a.m., according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
In its news release, the FBI thanked the Peoria and Phoenix police departments as well as the media and public for numerous tips that led to the suspects’ arrest. If deemed applicable, reward payments will be made at the end of the investigation.
The charges against Mr. Wertz and Ms. Poisson will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
The “Chedda Bandit” is suspected to be responsible for robberies May 22 at a MidFirst Bank, 17025 N. 7th Street, Phoenix; May 24 at a MidFirst Bank, 7485 W. Cactus Road, Peoria; May 31 at a MidFirst Bank, 702 E. Thunderbird Road, Phoenix and June 4 at a BBVA Compass, 13950 N. 75th Ave., Peoria.
