11-year-old boy killed in crash after running across Peoria street

An 11-year-old boy is dead after a truck struck him in Peoria.

Police responded to the area of 77th and Peoria avenues around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday for an injury collision.

Police said the driver of a pickup truck was traveling eastbound when the 11-year-old ran across Peoria Avenue in front of the truck and was hit.

The boy was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The driver of the pickup was not injured or transported to the hospital. He remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Police closed the intersection for several hours but reopened around 6 p.m.

Peoria’s Traffic Services Unit continues to investigate.

Police do not believe impairment of the driver was a factor in the crash.
