A boy was reunited with his father after being kidnapped this evening in Avondale, according to police.
At about 5 p.m. Sept. 12, the Avondale Police Department responded to the 200 block of South 3rd Street near Dysart and Buckeye roads in reference to a kidnapping.
According to a release, a man told officers his 2001 BMW had been taken without his permission by a woman by the name of Janela Ivana Enriquez-Arreola, 20, who was an acquaintance of his.
The man stated his 10-year-old son who suffers from a serious medical condition was in the backseat of the vehicle when it was taken.
Officials later located the vehicle in the area of 32nd Avenue and West Van Buren Street in Phoenix with the boy safe inside.
The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival and is still outstanding.
The boy was transported to Phoenix Children’s Hospital for precautionary reasons where he reunited with his father, according to police.
Ms. Enriquez-Arreola is about 5 feet 2 inches tall with brown eyes and brown shoulder-length hair.
On Wed. Sept. 13, Avondale police said the boy’s father has known Ms. Enriquez-Arreola for several months. He told police their relationship was becoming a friendship. However, the crimes came as an unexpected shock to the him, according to a release.
The motive for the crime is unknown and Ms. Enriquez-Arreola’s whereabouts are also unknown.
