Authorities arrest wanted felon in Wickenburg

Authorities in Wickenburg took a wanted felon into custody on Tuesday, according to police.

Police activity along US 60 near milepost 112 on Sept. 12 involved 25-year-old Mark Facio, who was considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities attempted to stop him Monday night during a traffic stop, but he fled. He attempted to steal a vehicle at a Shell gas station Tuesday morning.Officials say he ran off into the Hassayampa River.

The Wickenburg Police Department said Mr. Facio was in custody as of 12:30 p.m.

“All law enforcement personnel are safe and uninjured,” the department said on Facebook. “(The) subject will be medically cleared and then transported to 4th Avenue jail after being interviewed.

Officials from the Wickenburg Police Department, Marciopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Arizona Department of Public Safety are taking part in the search.

Wickenburg police placed Hassayampa Elementary School on lockdown at about 11 a.m., according to the Wickenburg Unified School District. The lockdown was lifted as of the arrest.

Wickenburg is about 34 miles from the MCSO District 3 station in Surprise.
