David Wilson, Sun City West resident, was re-elected chairman of the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority. Mr. Wilson is also chairman of the North County Fire & Medical District.

Administrative offices for the AFMA are located at 18818 N. Spanish Garden Drive, Sun City West.

The AFMA consists of  North County Fire & Medical District and South County Fire & Medical District. Recently the Sun Lakes Fire District and the Tonopah Valley Fire District merged to create the SCFMD.

At the Dec. 18 meeting each department elected two members to serve on the board of the AFMA.

SCFMD elected John Crawford, from the former Sun Lakes organization, and Bob Ince, of the former Tonopah Valley organization for their two seats.

NCFMD elected David Wilson and Dick Cherry for their two seats.

Under the new organization by-laws, the fifth seat is chosen by the other four board members. After two tie votes, Dawn Miller, NCFMD board member, was elected to the fifth position.

She will assume her additional duties at the January 29 meeting.

As part of their regular meeting, the AFMA governing board members signed letters commending the fire crews at their eight fire stations and administrative offices.

The board members also decided to proceed with purchasing two new fire engines which will replace engines purchased in 2004.

The new engines will be identical and purchased simultaneously which will provide significant savings, said Assistant Chief Tim Van Scoter. The estimated cost of the two engines is $901,905.
