The entrance sign to the Surprise Civic Center (Independent Newsmedia file)

Surprise is in the process of updating its sign code and wants your input. The proposed code aims to balance business needs with aesthetics, while meeting the requirements of the law.

The first meeting  took place Wednesday night. There also was substantive discussion at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, which can be viewed here.

Join an upcoming public meeting to learn more and give feedback on the proposed changes:

• 6-7 p.m. March 15 – Surprise City Hall – Community Room, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza

• 6-7 p.m. March 22 – Surprise City Hall – Community Room, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza

• 6-7 p.m. March 29 – Surprise Regional Library, 16089 N. Bullard Ave.

To view the proposed sign code text and submit online comments, visit: www.surpriseaz. gov/signcode.

Comments may also be submitted by mail to Robert H. Kuhfuss, AICP, City of Surprise Community Development Department, 16000 Civic Center Plaza, Surprise, AZ 85374; or by email to robert.kuhfuss@surpriseaz. gov.

Following the public meetings, the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission will hear the matter at a public hearing and forward their recommendation to the City Council. Staff anticipates reviewing revised language with the council in June, with the final draft to the council tentatively later in the summer.

For questions, contact Mr. Kuhfuss at 623-222-3137 or robert.kuhfuss@surpriseaz.gov.
