A suspect is in custody following a shooting that left two people dead and others wounded following an argument at a Phoenix house party.
Jeffrey Craig Rhone II, 29, was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, burglary and disorderly conduct.
Police said Mr. Rhone surrendered after an officer spotted him driving a vehicle with a flat tire near 35th and Northern avenues Tuesday morning, several hours after the shooting.
The suspect reportedly left the party after an argument over his missing wallet around 7 p.m. Monday. He left but returned around 9:30 p.m., when he got into a physical altercation with an individual. However, he was later removed from the home.
When he returned a second time around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, he began shooting party-goers. The shooter then fled.
Police said Jorge Rodriguez, 30, and Shelby Verderosa, 17, were killed in the shooting. The other victims are 19, 22, 29 and 56. They have serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Records released Wednesday morning indicate when Mr. Rhone was removed from the home, he went to his Glendale apartment near 51st and Northern avenues and took his roommate’s weapon. The roommate did not wish to aid in prosecution but wanted the gun back.
Records state a child less than 6 months was found in between the legs of Verderosa, the girl who was shot and killed. The child was not harmed.
Mr. Rhone was jailed in lieu of a $1 million cash-only bond.
