Surprise police said a man is dead after a shooting overnight at a sports bar.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Wednesday outside Tailgaters & IL Primo Surprise, 15529 W. Bell Road, near Reems Road.
The suspect was arrested and identified as Troy Paille, 28, of Surprise.
When officers arrived, patrons were physically restraining Mr. Paille while others provided first aid to the 27-year-old victim. He was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately died from his injuries.
Police identified the victim as Anthony Kenny, of Surprise.
The investigation into the shooting remains active. However, investigators learned Mr. Kenny and Mr. Paille were associates and had previous disputes in the past.
The shooting was a targeted attack on the victim and an isolated incident, police stated in a release.
“Surprise PD has not released any information regarding the motive for the shooting or the relationship between the victim and suspect,” Sgt. Tim Klarkowski stated via email when asked about reports the shooting stemmed from an argument over a female.
Mr. Paille was booked on charges of first-degree murder, weapons misconduct and drug possession.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office lists additional liquor violation charges including open container in vehicle, minor in possession and consuming in vehicle.
A spokesman for the Maricopa County Superior Court said Mr. Paille was not scheduled to appear in court until Thursday night.
