Peoria police arrest basketball coach on child sex crime charges

Peoria police arrested a co-owner of a youth basketball training program on accusations of sexual assault and child molestation.

On Friday, Peoria Police Department Special Victim detectives arrested Holland Woods, 57, on 28 counts of child molestation, sexual conduct with a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, sexual abuse, sexual assault, aggravated assault, sex trafficking and kidnapping.

According to a release, four different victims came forward and alleged they had been molested and sexually abused by Mr. Woods over the last several years. The victim’s stated the abuse started as young as 8 for some of them and continued for several years.

The abuse included sexual intercourse, police said.

Holland Woods, who also goes by “Mutt,” co-owns non-profit youth basketball-training program “Underground Basketball,” coaching and training children in the Valley.

After an extensive investigation, Peoria detectives arrested Mr. Woods without incident at his home in Peoria.

“We would like to thank the victims in this case for coming forward, and we encourage all parents, guardians and caretakers to discuss situations like this with their children,” Peoria police stated.
