A man who fled with a teenage girl from Surprise to Nevada is back in Arizona facing charges of kidnapping and sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Jonathan Carson, 21, was booked into jail Tuesday in lieu of a $1 million cash-only bond.
Surprise police had alerted the public to an Amber Alert Sept. 9 after a 14-year-old girl was last seen the day before.
Police also identified Mr. Carson as possibly being with the girl.
At the time, Mr. Carson was the subject of an outstanding felony warrant for deserting from military service and was reported as being suicidal.
On the evening of Sept. 9, police said both were found in Mesquite, Nevada. The girl was unharmed.
He was criminally charged in Nevada with felony battery on a police officer, misdemeanor resisting arrest, and misdemeanor obstruction of justice.
Mr. Carson had been in custody in Nevada but has since been extradited to Maricopa County.
He has an arraignment hearing Nov. 20.
