Glendale police are investigating after a driver was killed in a collision in the far west portion of the city.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. Wednesday near Northern Avenue and Dysart Road.
Glendale police said a vehicle was stopped at the traffic lights south of the intersection. Witnesses told police another vehicle was seen speeding in the northbound lanes.
That vehicle did not slow down and struck the back of the stopped vehicle, police said. Both vehicles ended up on the north side of Northern.
Paramedics pronounced the driver of the stopped vehicle dead on scene. He was identified as 38-year-old David Garcia.
The El Mirage Police Department tweeted Wednesday night that they were investigating but deferred questions on the collision to Glendale police. The Maricopa County Department of Transportation tweeted the intersection’s reopening around 6:15 a.m. Thursday.
Speed and impairment are being investigated as factors of the collision.
No arrests have been made. Police are not releasing the other driver’s identity due to the investigation.
