Domestic violence situation leads to shooting in Peoria

A man is in custody after reportedly shooting his son in Peoria.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. Saturday at an apartment complex near 83rd Avenue and Mariners Way, just south of Bell Road.

Peoria police tweeted its officers were investigating a domestic violence-related shooting. One person was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive.

On Monday, police said the suspect, Harvest George Sr., 67,  called police and said he had shot his son. The victim went to the front of the complex and had someone call police.

Mr. George was cooperative with police, a release states.

Police learned Mr. George and his 25-year-old son had been arguing. Mr. George initially pulled a knife on his son but the victim was able to get the knife away. However, as the son tried to leave the residence, Mr. George allegedly shot him in the back.

Mr. George was booked into the Fourth Avenue jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond on charges of aggravated assault and weapons offenses. His next court appearance in Feb. 11.

“This is believed to be an isolated incident of domestic violence and there is no risk to public safety,” police stated. “We appreciate the patience of those residents who were displaced for a brief time while we ensured the area was safe.”

No road restrictions were in place.
