Plans are now underway to return the Legends Golf Tour to Sun City West.
Local real estate agent Kevin Wurgler is chairman of the events committee for the Alliance for Business and Community organization that is spearheading the effort to return the event.
Walgreen’s Drugs sponsored the event in recent years but decided to withdraw before there was enough time to get a new sponsor for an event in 2018. The money Walgreen’s raised went to their charities. The new plan is to have the benefitted charities be local.
Tentative dates for the 2019 event are April 5-7.
The Briarwood Country Club, 20800 135th Ave, will be site for the Pro-Am charity challenge Friday, April 9.
The two rounds of the Charity Challenge for the professional golfers will be at the Grandview Golf Course, 14260 Meeker Boulevard.
The Legends Tour features the talents of LPGA Tour professionals age 45 and older and represents some of the most memorable and talented female golfers in the history of the game.
The tour began in 2000 and raised millions for charities. The tour has visited 15 states, Japan and Australia.
The committee hopes to raise $300,000 in various sponsorships, ranging from $50 to $50,000.
“It’s not about golf,“ Mr. Wurgler said, “But a vehicle to help bring this community together. It will help put Sun City West on the map as people loo, what we’re doing for our local charities.
