A north Peoria neighborhood celebrated the opening of The Meadows Community Center, a 4,500-square-foot neighborhood amenity at The Meadows at Camino a Lago master-planned community May 31, according to a news release.

The community center is located at the corner of 98th Avenue and Speckled Gecko Drive, within the master-planned community.

Peoria Councilman Jon Edwards shared his thoughts on the success of the community and how its development is a win for the city, according to the release.

Meadows HOA community manager Cari Crew began the grand opening with words of thanks to the residents, the contractor SD Crane Builders, Maracay Homes and the other homebuilders within the community, as well as the city of Peoria for granting the necessary approvals to allow the building to be developed by The Meadows HOA.

The new open-air, flex space center features a 1,600-square-foot meeting room, a 2,900-square-foot heated pool and spa, a gas fire pit and fireplace, a barbecue, ramada, bocce ball courts, pickle ball court, misters and heaters, and outdoor showers.

In addition to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, residents enjoyed food and refreshments, as well as a variety of activities for children, including bounce houses, face painting, balloon making, swimming and music.

The Meadows at Camino a Lago, which is now at 50 percent build-out, was developed by Communities Southwest and closed its first land sale in 2012. Maracay Homes joined the community in 2015 with a 173-homesite land purchase, followed by another land purchase of 299 homesites 15 months later. The combination of these two parcels were valued at more than $48 million when bought, the release said.

The 694-acre Meadows offers three distinct neighborhoods – Enclave, Estates and Legacy – comprising of 472 homesites from Maracay. There are more than 1,500 single-family homesites from a variety of builders in The Meadows. The entire master-planned community is 50 percent built out.
