The Peoria City Council recently authorized a budget transfer to fund renovations and updates to the Peoria Sports Complex.

There are two city-related  fees on each ticket that fund improvements to the facilities — the Sports Complex Facility Surcharge and the Sports Complex Non-General Admission Surcharge. The money raised from these fees are a continual funding source for enhancements at the complex, for things like furniture, equipment and other projects.

Community Services Deputy Director Chris Calcaterra said the Sports Complex Facility Surcharge is $1 per ticket and the Sports Complex Non-General Admission Surcharge is $.50. The city, Seattle Mariners and San  Diego Padres decide what will be funded from the Sports Complex Facility Surcharge. Only the city decides what will be funded from the Sports Complex Non-General Admission Surcharge.

The Peoria City Council on Nov. 28 authorized expenditures from those fees totaling $150,000 to be used for a number of improvements and projects for the facility.

Funds from the Sports Complex Non-General Admission Surcharge Fund, totaling $112,000, will be applied to the following: furniture, fixtures and equipment for the newly constructed pavilion, as well as stadium directional signs for newly constructed areas, and concourse monument signs, including updates to existing signs in newly constructed areas. System addition/enhancements will also be added to outfit the terrace and video board with audio to help support stadium events.

Funds from the Sports Complex Facility Surcharge Fund, totaling $38,000, will be applied to fund the following: removal and replacement of dugout flooring and audio system additions/enhancements to outfit additional speakers to support fans located in the Pavilion.

The city worked in coordination and mutual approval from the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners, per their lease agreements to approve these improvements.
