Tempe PD: Man pulled from Kiwanis Park lake after knife fight

Posted

A man was arrested Saturday night in Tempe after a knife fight and a water rescue from the Kiwanis Park lake.

Tempe police responded about 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, to a ramada in Kiwanis Park, 5320 S. Mill Ave., after receiving a call about a fight.

Officers attempted to speak to the men involved in the fight with one of them cooperating with authorities, police said.

The other man was near the lake, and police used a Taser on him, according to a release. He ran from police and jumped in the water, swimming toward the middle of the lake.

Officers used throw bags in addition to a rental boat to assist in pulling the man out of the water.

Tempe Fire Medical Rescue sent in a rescuer, and the man was removed from the lake, police said.

He was examined and was not taken to the hospital, police said.

“Preliminary investigation would reveal that two subjects were in a physical fight in the ramada area when one male pulled a knife on the other,” according to the Tempe Police Department release. The release did not state why a Taser was used.

“The male who entered the water was arrested for charges in relation to the call,” the release stated.

The other man also was given medical treatment for minor injuries. He was not arrested.

Police said an investigation is continuing.
