Tempe advises residents on transit impacts from Boots in the Park

Tempe advises residents on transit impacts from Boots in the Park

Residents are reminded to be prepared for transportation impacts this weekend, as Boots in the Park takes over Tempe Beach Park on Sept. 28 and 29, bringing two full days of live music to the city.

A clear bag policy will be in effect for this event, and a full list of what’s allowed in the venue is available here. Below you'll find the best ways to get to (or around) the event, according to a city release.

Take Transit

Avoid traffic and parking hassles by taking transit to and from downtown Tempe. Tempe has 13 local bus routes, six free Orbit circulators, the Streetcar and nine light rail stops. Passengers are encouraged to park at one of the following park-and-ride locations and ride rail.

Light rail and Streetcar connections:

  • Dorsey and Apache

Light rail connections:

  • McClintock and Apache
  • Price and Apache

Street Restrictions

Several Tempe streets will be closed or restricted for Boots in the Park, the release stated. The following street restrictions and closures have been identified; however, others could be put in place to address public safety concerns that occur during the event.

Sept. 28, beginning at 7 a.m. until Sept. 29 at approximately 10 p.m. (close of event):

  • Eastbound Rio Salado Parkway closed between Hardy Drive and Mill Avenue.
  • Westbound Rio Salado Parkway closed between Mill Avenue and Lakeside Drive.
  • Southbound Mill Avenue closed between Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway.
  • Northbound Ash Avenue closed at Third Street.
  • Eastbound First Street closed at Rio Salado Parkway.

Call the business to find the best parking and access options for any individual business on Mill Avenue.

Transit Impacts

The following bus detours will be in effect from Sept. 28, beginning of service, to Sept. 29, end of service:

  • 48 Northbound: Regular route to Rio Salado Parkway/Hardy Drive, south on Hardy Drive to University Drive, east on University Drive to Ash Avenue, north on Ash Avenue to 5th Street, east on 5th Street to resume regular route.
  • 48 Southbound: Regular route to 5th Street/Ash Avenue; south on Ash Avenue to University Drive, west on University Drive to Hardy Drive, north on Hardy Drive to Rio Salado Pkwy., west on Rio Salado Pkwy. to resume regular route.
  • 62 Northbound: Regular route to Hardy Drive/University Drive, east on University Drive to Ash Avenue, north on Ash Avenue to 5th Street, east on 5th Street to resume regular route.
  • 62 Southbound: Regular route to 5th Street/Ash Avenue, south on Ash Avenue to University Drive, west on University Drive to Hardy Drive, south on Hardy Drive to resume regular route.

Multi-use Impacts

Starting on Sept. 26 until Oct. 1, the lake pathway (south side of the lake near the boat rentals) will be closed. 

On Sept. 28, beginning at 7 a.m. until Sept. 30 at 6 a.m.:

  • Eastbound Rio Salado Parkway open to bicycles and pedestrians between Hardy Drive and Mill Avenue.
  • Westbound Rio Salado Parkway open to bicycles and pedestrians between Mill Avenue and Lakeside Drive.
  • Mill Avenue southbound will be closed to bicycles and pedestrians between Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway.
