INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
A Surprise Circle K employee was shot in the chest Friday, and an El Mirage woman has been arrested on an attempted murder charge, police said.
The shooting occurred about 5:25 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Rosewood Estates Trailer Park, 12721 W. Greenway Road in El Mirage, police said.
The 30-year-old victim was found shot in the chest at the entrance to the complex. Police said they applied a “lifesaving chest seal,” and the victim was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition, according to authorities.
Early in the investigation, police said, El Mirage officers obtained video of a female “brandishing a handgun in a threatening manner at the victim several blocks from where the shooting occurred.”
An officer who was securing the crime scene saw a vehicle preparing to exit the complex and recognized the female from the video seated in the passenger seat, police said.
Officers arrested the passenger, Kiana Viola, 23, of El Mirage.
Detectives and El Mirage Police Department’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team officers continued the investigation and determined that at 5:09 a.m., the suspect and a male arrived in a pickup truck at the Circle K, 12707 W. Grand Ave.
The shooting victim saw the suspect shoplift several items, police said, and followed Viola out of the Circle K and continued to follow her, walking to the trailer park, where Viola is suspected of shooting her.
Search warrants were served and a semi-automatic gun was seized, officials said.
Viola was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, unlawful discharge of firearms and endangerment.
