WHAM Art Association has rescheduled an April show after coronavirus precautions canceled the event.
The show, part of the WHAM Presents Music series, will feature SoSco Flute & Guitar Duo for a 6 p.m. show Saturday, Nov. 28 at WHAM Art Center, 16560 N. Dysart Road, Surprise.
The instrumental duo showcases Laura Strickland’s flute paired with Alex Mack’s guitar.
Ms. Strickland is a freelance flutist who spent many years studying music before becoming a professional. She has an undergraduate degree in flute performance from Northwestern University in Chicago and a master’s degree in flute performance from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She later returned to Northwestern to get a master’s degree in music theory. She did doctoral studies in flute performance and literature at the University of Maryland and University of Illinois.
In addition to playing with SoSco Duo, she is principal flutist with Arizona Pro Arte Ensemble where she is also executive director.
Mr. Mack is a freelance musician who attended Berklee College of Music in Boston where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Songwriting as well as studying guitar and voice. During college he performed more than 1,000 shows for Cedar Point Amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio and upon graduation, he was hired by Princess Cruises as principal orchestra guitarist where he traveled throughout Europe, the Pacific and Caribbean.
Steve Stockmar has been with the Independent Newsmedia team since 2017. An NAU alum and Peoria resident, Steve’s community journalism pursuits focus mostly on arts & culture, education, and profiles of neighbors making a difference. In his spare time Steve plays in a vintage baseball league using uniforms and rules from the 1860s, and also acts (badly) in community theater. In addition, he has an unhealthy obsession with baseball and the Chicago Cubs.
