West Valley Arts Council received a West Valley Mavericks Foundation grant that will go directly toward supporting its educational performance series, Arts Advantage.
Through Arts Advantage, fourth grade students learn from, and interact with, professional artists during live performances in dance, music, theater, and opera — all specifically designed for young audiences.
Students have experienced educational and diverse performances such as Native American hoop dancing, multi-lingual opera, African drumming, and Flamenco.
The West Valley Arts Council’s focus on working with Title 1 schools is to ensure that underserved youth have adequate access to quality arts education and experiences. Donors like West Valley Mavericks Foundation make it possible for the Arts Council to reach and serve those that normally would not be able to afford it.
“(We) congratulate West Valley Arts Council for the fine work they do in the community,” West Valley Mavericks president Jason Khan stated in a news release. “This was a very competitive year and West Valley Arts Council should take this grant as our endorsement of their important work and its impact on the community. We appreciate all of the hard-working non-profit organizations and we are glad to assist during this especially challenging time.”
With current gathering restrictions, the Arts Advantage program will be offered to schools online via recorded video and Zoom Live performances. Students will be able to experience and interact with even more art forms, cultural traditions, languages, and science.

West Valley Arts Council is currently expanding its programs on virtual platforms to best serve the community at a safe distance. Gallery 37, a summer student art program, is underway virtually for the first time in 20 years.
Students are meeting via video conferencing to collaborate on a public art piece for the 2020-2021 school year.
