Waddell widening project completed

Road now has 3 lanes in each direction

Posted

City of Surprise officials have signaled the completion of the voter-approved Waddell Road Improvement Project.

All major traffic restrictions now lifted for the north and south half of Waddell from the east limit of Loop 303 to Reems Road.

A traffic signal was added at the intersection of Waddell and Sarival Avenue, near the new Costco.

The project constructed four additional travel lanes in the area — except Reems to Sarival which required three additional travel lanes — for a total of six travel lanes.

The work also eliminated areas where multiple lanes merged into single lanes.

Sidewalks, bicycle lanes, street lighting, landscaping and turn lanes were included in the project.

Residents still can expect temporary and minor traffic control during the next couple weeks as the city works to complete finishing touches along the roadway.

The Waddell Road Improvement Project was voter-approved through the 2017 general obligation bond, which funded 10 capital improvement projects.
