Valley Metro adjusts Express, RAPID bus service schedules due to COVID-19

Buses will operate on a reduced schedule beginning April 6

Valley Metro is adjusting the Express and RAPID commuter bus service schedules to operate fewer trips each weekday morning and evening.

It is a proactive step to maintain local bus route service for those who fully rely on public transit for critical trips, according to a release.

“Public transit continues to serve as a lifeline for essential workers in the healthcare, government and social service sectors,” Scott Smith, Valley Metro CEO, said in the release. “We are reallocating our skilled workforce of operators, supervisors and maintenance workers to focus on our local bus routes at this time.”

Valley Metro has experienced less demand for commuter trips and encourages that only necessary trips be taken to ensure that the U.S. Center for Disease Control’s guidelines, such as 6-foot distancing, are followed.

In summary, until further notice:

  • Express and RAPID commuter bus schedules will be reduced effective April 6
  • Local bus, circulators and light rail continue to operate on regular schedules; service is being closely monitored and could adjust based on resources.

Valley Metro is committed to the safety and well-being of the community and we are in constant communication with state and federal authorities as we continue to implement their guidance related to COVID-19, the release states.
