The city of Surprise is reopening programs at the Senior Center in a phased approach, with limited front desk access and exercise classes available now.

The center, at 15832 N. Hollyhock St., is a hub for connection and activities for those age 50 and up and adults with disabilities.

All senior center participants will be required to fill out a new enrollment packet when returning to in-person participation. Enrollment packets are available at the senior center during the hours listed below or online at surpriseaz.gov/seniorcenter.

Completed packets should be dropped off at the senior center.

Membership is $12 per year for Surprise residents and $15 for non-residents. Fees are due with membership forms.

Face masks are encouraged, but not required. Dates, capacity requirements and times are subject to change without notice.

Front Desk staff is now available to accept membership paperwork and payment at the front desk from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Credit card/debit card is highly encouraged as a form of payment.

Three workout classes are now available at the Villanueva Recreational Center bext to the senior center. They are:
• Fitzi with Mitzi — 11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays
• SilverSneakers — 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays

• Stretch, Flex and Tone — 1 p.m. Thursdays.

Participants are welcome to bring their own workout ball and resistance band.

The doors to VRC will open five minutes prior to a class beginning.

The Senior Center meal program is transitioning back to in-person sit down meals starting at Noon Monday, May 24. Reservations are required two days in advance and only one week of reservations will be taken at a time.

For individuals age 60 years and better, and adults under 60 years old with a disability, the suggested contribution is $2.50 per meal. For individuals who do not qualify for the meal program, the suggested contribution is $5 per meal. It is highly encouraged to pay contributions using a credit/debit card.

If unable to participate in the in-person meal program, there is a home delivered meal option with Banner Olive Branch. For program qualifications and details, call 602-264-4357.

Capacity for meals will be a maximum of 50 participants a day.

Beginning Monday, June 14, the fitness room will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants are required to make a 45-minute appointment to schedule their workout. This will allow proper time for cleaning and sanitizing.

An updated doctor release is required within 30 days of joining. For information, or to make an appointment, call 623-222-1500. Capacity will be a maximum of 10 participants per hour.

At this time, there is no open recreation. Participants may bring a bag no larger than a backpack size, and it must be kept with them at all times. For information call the Senior Center at 623-222-1500 or email Trisha Weston, program coordinator, at trisha.weston@surpriseaz.gov.
