Club facilitates donation from Buckeye to Puerto Peñasco

The Rotary Club of Surprise with members of the Rotary Club Mar de Peñasco (Rotary District 4100) organized the delivery of several donations of needed firefighting equipment to the Fire Department/Bomberos of Puerto Peñasco from the Buckeye Fire Department.

The donation consists of more than 150 pieces of needed equipment and tools including 86 1.5-inch hoses, nozzles, six heat cameras with chargers, six fire lamps, two Halligan bars, 14 sets of protective wear and numerous other rescue devices.

“Thank You to the City of Buckeye and the Buckeye Fire Department for these donations as well as to the Rotary Club of Surprise and Rotary Club Mar de Peñasco for their support and perseverance to make this a reality,” said Alan Ontiveros Lopez, director of civil protection and firefighters in Puerto Peñasco.

Ontiveros said these are important tools they were lacking and really needed to strengthen the work of the Puerto Peñasco Firefighters to attend to the contingencies arising from local emergencies.

In an interview to the Puerto Peñasco news, Enrique Rodríguez Ramirez, president of the Rotary Club Mar de Peñasco, said these tools will be incredibly useful to firemen.

“It was all made possible by the coordinated partnership with the Puerto Peñasco City Council, headed by Mayor Ernesto “Kiko” Munro,” Mr. Ramirez said. “All necessary procedures were put in place to secure the donations in Arizona and bring them successfully across the border to Puerto Peñasco.”

The Rotary Club of Surprise has been involved in several service projects in partnership with the Rotary Club Mar de Peñasco south of the border including the donation of a firetruck, ambulance and service vehicle to the fire department, the donation of a radiator and supplies for a school bus, work at a Lion’s Club facility, remodeling of local elementary schools, a beach clean-up and supporting their inaugural golf tournament fundraiser.
