Surprise Retail Survey open for requests through May 9

City polling residents for what businesses they want most

It’s time for Surprise residents to sound off in the 2021 Surprise Retail Survey.

Requests are being taken at surpriseaz.gov/retailsurvey through Sunday, May 9 for restaurants or retailers that residents want to see most in the city.

“We want to know how we can make our city a one-stop shopping and dining destination,” city officials wrote in a news release promoting the survey.

To spur interest, the the Surprise Economic Development Department is giving away gift cards to four randomly-selected survey-takers.

The survey will help the city identify retail strengths within the community, as well as opportunities to bring additional amenities closer to home.

Past Surprise Retail Surveys helped spark businesses already open in Surprise, including Costco, Oregano’s Pizza Bistro, Texas Roadhouse and In-N-Out Burger.

Other resident-requested restaurants have opened, too, including Café Rio, Raising Canes and Popeye’s Louisiana Chicken.

“We are still actively engaging with others on the list, and hope to see more of your favorites open up shop in Surprise soon,” city officials said. “It’s important to us that we attract businesses you want, because the money you spend here, stays here.”

City officials said local sales tax makes up nearly 40% of the city’s General Fund revenues.
