101 Surprise businesses held virtual events to restart

Posted

Surprise residents will be able to vote on which of their favorite restaurant or retail business re-opened the best from the COVID-19 pandemic closures.

The city featured 101 local Surprise businesses in short, three- to five-second videos where owners or staff cut a ribbon to celebrate reopening.

The Surprise Economic Development Department is now asking residents to vote on their favorite clips and answer questions about them to win prizes.

New videos are posted each Monday to social media with a new selection of videos added and voted on once a week for five weeks, beginning the week of June 22, to determine the top five videos.

Those videos will go head-to-head for a final round to pick Surprise’s favorite. The business with the top votes will be awarded a trophy.

Residents will also be able to win prizes by answering fun questions related to the weekly videos. Each person who guesses correctly will be entered into that week’s drawing to win a $30 gift card to spend at a local Surprise restaurant or retail business.

Winners will be announced in the following Monday’s social post and contacted by email.

Residents can follow the Economic Development Department’s Facebook and Twitter to vote and play along.

The Surprise Economic Development Department started the virtual ribbon cutting celebrations as businesses began to reopen after COVID-19 to help get the word out to customers that they were open for business.

This video competition is one more opportunity to demonstrate the city’s appreciation for our businesses.

The virtual ribbon cutting program has concluded, as the department is now able to provide in-person ribbon cutting celebrations with safe social distancing measures.
