Student from El Mirage wins Dysart district spelling bee
DUSD sends 5 to regional competition

Students from across the Dysart Unified School District competed in the district spelling bee on Dec. 1 in Surprise.
The district congratulates its top five winners of the 2021-22 spelling bee, who will move on to compete at the Region 5 spelling bee, one of six spelling bees in Maricopa County.
Areli Ortega from Riverview School in El Mirage won the district bee by correctly spelling the word “obsolete.” Maksim Jerkovic from Sunset Hills Elementary School in Surprise came in second, Garrett DiCarlo from Freedom Traditional Academy in Surprise came in third, Josemartin Padilla from Kingswood Elementary School in Surprise finished fourth, and Richard Vogler from Mountain View School in Waddell placed fifth.
DUSD congratulates all the students who competed today and extends good luck to the top five finishers.
Regional winners in Maricopa County and county winners from the rest of the counties in the state will compete in the state spelling bee March 19, 2022 in the Madison Center for the Arts, 5601 N. 16th St, Phoenix.
The Arizona Spelling Bee Champion represents the state in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
