‘Streetcar’ set to open at Stage Left

Tennessee Williams’ classic plays over 4 weekends in Surprise

Stage Left Productions’ first presentation of the 2020 season, Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “A Streetcar Named Desire,” opens 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 on the Surprise stage at 11340 W. Bell Road, Suite 105.

The production runs over four weekends through Saturday, Feb. 1.

In 1946, Jessica Tandy and 22 year old Marlon Brando electrified Broadway as Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski in this classic story of sensuality and class tensions when Blanche arrives in a working class neighborhood of the French Quarter to visit her sister, Stella, and brother-in-law, Stanley, a theatre news release states.

Starring in this production are three actors who are new among Stage Left performers. The role of Blanche is being played by Tess Jenkins, who has been performing since she was a teenager in numerous regional theaters, including Theater Works, Desert Stages, Scottsdale Community Theater and Southwest Shakespeare Company, where she has appeared in five productions.

Appearing as Stanley Kowalski is Mathew Fields Winter. Although new to the stage, he attracted attention two years ago as Roy in “Lone Star” at Mesa Encore Theater, and then last year was cast as Biff in “Death of a Salesman” at Desert Stages, for which he won the ariZoni Award as Best Supporting Actor.

Kelly Hajek, as Stella, is a recent graduate of the theater arts program at the University of Arizona. She is a winner of a People’s Choice Award in the Young Artists’ Competition at the Herberger Theater Center.

Stage Left has had sold out performances in its past four productions.

Tickets for “Streetcar” are $25, and are available by calling 623-285-6321 or visiting stageleftaz.com.
