Surprise-based Stage Left Productions will play host to the fifth of six Stage Left Productions Jr. youth theater plays from July 22 to 31.

The play, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.” will be at Stage Left Productions, in the Bell Mar Plaza at 11340 W. Bell Road, Suite 105, next door to Hurricane Grill and Wings.

The musical is based on a book by Doug Wright, with music by Alan Menken with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glen Slater.

Stage Left Production’s youth/education director Amber Ryan will direct the play. As an actor, Ryan has worked on Theater, TV, Film, Industrial and both local and national Commercial projects. For 10 years she has worked with kids ages 3-18 developing and teaching acting techniques and directing youth theater productions.

She created and developed an after-school theater program for a local charter school. In 2019, this program inducted 9 students into their newly-chartered International Thespian Society Troupe.

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.,” adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture. Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories, the play looks at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.

Performances are at 7 p.m. July 22, 23, 29 and 30 and 4 p.m. July 24 and 31.

Tickets are $18 reserved seating and may be purchased at stageleftaz.com or at the box office from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays or call 623-285-6321.

The box office also opens one hour prior to a performance. Stage Left seats are elevated so those that have trouble with steps are recommended to purchase seats in Row A or B.

The next adult Stage Left production “Buffalo Bill,” will be presented by the Ronin Theatre Company and features local AriZoni-winning actor Keath Hall.

That show runs from Aug. 19 to 28.
