Salvation Army, Ford team to distribute 1.3 million facemasks

Posted

The Salvation Army is teaming with Ford Motor Company and local Ford dealers to provide over 1.3 million free medical-grade face masks to communities across Arizona.

Distribution begins with Ford Mask Donation Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23,  (or while supplies last; limit of 20 masks per person), with nearly 160,000 masks available via contactless, drive-thru events at the following Salvation Army locations in the Valley:

The Salvation Army North West Corps Community Center

17420 N. Avenue of the Arts Blvd., Surprise

The Salvation Army Mesa Corps Community Center

241 E. 6th St., Mesa

The Salvation Army Metro Phoenix

Southwest Divisional Headquarters

2707 E. Van Buren St., Phoenix

Distributions will also take place on Feb. 23 at select Valley Ford dealers as well as Salvation Army units and Ford dealers in Tucson, Sierra Vista and Green Valley.

“Ford has been a valued community partner of The Salvation Army for many years and has always stepped up to serve the needs of the community, and that’s certainly been no different during the pandemic,” said Major David Yardley, The Salvation Army Metro Phoenix Program Coordinator. “We are privileged that Ford has put its trust in The Salvation Army to get these masks to our most vulnerable neighbors.”

“Ford has been a leader in COVID-19 mitigation efforts since April and one of the first manufacturers to pivot toward making personal protective equipment (PPE),” said Brad Jones, Phoenix Regional Manager for Ford Motor Company. “It was a natural fit for us to partner with The Salvation Army on this effort, as it’s an extension of the partnership we already have in place supporting their annual water drive efforts, Thanksgiving turkey drive and Red Kettle campaign.”

For those unable to visit a distribution site on Ford Mask Donation Day, hundreds of thousands of additional masks will be available at Salvation Army units and Family Thrift Stores across the state after Feb. 23. Contact your nearest Salvation Army unit or Family Thrift Store in Arizona to inquire about mask availability.

Ford Mask Donation Day is part of Ford’s #FinishStrong initiative – a public call to action encouraging Americans to pull together, protect each other and help save lives in the months ahead until COVID-19 vaccines become more widely available.

Since April 2020, Ford has produced tens of millions of pieces of PPE, and Ford Fund, the company’s philanthropic arm, have delivered more than 70 million masks to nonprofit organizations, state and local officials, first responders, schools, community groups and Ford dealerships in all 50 states.

Ford will hit its goal of producing 120 million medical-grade masks for donation to at-risk communities by mid-2021.
