Canyon Ridge students win in poster contest
Posted
As part of the expanding collaborative efforts between Arizona Sons of the American Revolution and the students of Canyon Ridge School in Surprise, two learners have been recognized as the state winners in a patriotic writing and artistic contest sponsored by the Arizona SAR.
Seventh grader Chloe Oler and fifth grader Presley Skolnik secured the top position in the Sgt. Moses Adams History Brochure Contest and the Arizona SAR Americanism Poster Contest, respectively.
Middle-level learners in the Dysart Unified School District generated more than 120 entries for each contest. Fifth-grade classes focused on the creation of artistic posters that depicted scenes and personalities from the American Revolution.
Their seventh-grade counterparts, highlighted the importance of seminal documents that provided the foundational principles and government structures of the United States. Topic options for the creation of a colorful and informative tri-fold brochure included: the Declaration of Independence, the Federal Papers, U.S. Constitution or the Articles of Confederation.
The Saguaro, Prescott and Barry M Goldwater chapters of Arizona SAR each selected three winners of the brochure contest and a winner of the poster competition.
Representatives from each chapter presented certificates, cash prizes and patriotic commemorative pins to each winner.
The students recognized for advancing to the state contest and winning first place received additional awards at a meeting of the Arizona SAR Saguaro chapter on May 28.
Chloe Oler will now advance to the national level of competition in the SAR brochure contest and Presley Skolnik will enter the national contest for the SAR Americanism Poster contest.
