West Valley Arts Council welcomes the community to the closing reception of its current exhibition, IMPRINT Viva La Cultura from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 at the Arts HQ gallery and Surprise City Hall gallery, 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza, Surprise.

The exhibit also remains on display through this event at Arts HQ. The gallery’s regular hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Wednesday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

On Oct. 28 the public is invited to learn and engage in the celebration of Día de los Muertos; remembering and honoring the lives of deceased loved ones

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) altars, also known as ofrendas (offerings), are central to the tradition and constructed and adorned to remember, honor and please the dead. In the spirit of traditional Día de los Muertos festivities, the Arts HQ Gallery will also house a community altar where visitors are invited to leave mementos in honor of their loved ones who have passed.

Guests are encouraged to leave inexpensive, non-personal effects and symbolic items, such as copies of photographs, flowers, painted rocks, letters, etc. Non-perishable items will be collected and can be picked up by 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11.

This free family friendly event features live music, food and meaningful engagement with artists and the Latin American community.

• The next exhibit in Arts HQ will be the West Valley Arts Council Members’ Salon from Nov. 12-Dec. 16.

This is one of WVAC’s premier annual exhibitions featuring the works of artist members. The Members’ Salon will be a comprehensive art show that showcases the varied creative and skilled works of both emerging and master-level artists, celebrating the talent, artistry, and originality of their works.

In the tradition of the Parisian art salons of the 18th and 19th century, the WVAC Members’ Salon will present an exclusive annual exhibition of creative work.

The Members’ Salon opening reception will coincide with the West Valley Arts Council Holiday Market to take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. This event seeks to provide WVAC patrons, supporters, and community members an alternative holiday shopping experience with the opportunity to buy local.
