The ongoing presense of the COVID-19 pandemic has forced changes to the 2021 Cactus League schedule, which affected every game for the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals.

The two "home" teams in Surprise will play less games because of the elimination of "split squad" games.

The opener is now scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28 when the two teams face off at 1:05 p.m.

Capacity is expected to be capped at 25%, although the city of Surprise hasn't yet released its plan for fan safety measures.

City Deputy Manager Diane Arthur said tickets could be sold as soon as this weekend.

The season will now run through Monday, March 29, with the final game pitting the Royals against the Cleveland Indians at 12:05 p.m.
