OUAZ to play 6 home games in 2021

The OUAZ football team finalized its 10-game schedule for the 2021 season — a slate that features six contests at Spirit Field.

The Spirit will play five Sooner Athletic Conference games and one non-conference tilt with Borregos Monterrey in Surprise this fall.

Season ticket holders for the 2019 season will receive an email by July 16 with information on renewing their seats for the 2021 season. For fans interested in purchasing new season tickets, packages will go on sale at 10 a.m. Aug. 4.

Individual game tickets will go on sale 21 days prior to kickoff. All tickets will be digital this season and delivered via email and preferred mobile device and they can be purchased at OUAZSpirit.com/tickets.

OUAZ will alternate home and away games for the first seven games of the season. Along with the game against Borregos Monterrey, the Spirit will also face a first-time opponent in Louisiana College in 2021.

For the first time in program history, OUAZ will begin its season with a conference game when they host Lyon College on Sept. 4. The game will mark the first meeting between the two programs since the Scots won at Spirit Field during the 2019 season. Lyon opted out of the 2020-21 season.

A trip to Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas, follows on Sept. 11. This will be the third time in four seasons that the Spirit will play at SAGU, where OUAZ won during the 2019 season.

The slate brings the Spirit back to Surprise on Sept. 18 for a matchup against Texas Wesleyan. OUAZ has won two thrilling games against the Rams in the previous meetings, and this will be the first time they played since 2019 as TWU only played two games in the fall last season.

OUAZ will then make its longest road trip of the season to Pineville, Louisiana, to face the Louisiana College on Sept. 25. The Wildcats are new to the Sooner this season after joining the NAIA from NCAA DIII.

Crosstown rivals Arizona Christian return to Spirit Field on Oct. 2 for a meeting between the last two champions of the Sooner. The Spirit hold a 2-1 lead in the all-time series after ACU rallied to win at Spirit Field in March.

OUAZ follows that game with a trip to Tyler, Texas, to play Texas College on Oct. 9. It will be the first meeting since 2019, as the Steers opted out of the 2020-21 season. The Spirit have never lost to Texas College, including winning in Tyler last matchup.

After a bye week on Oct. 16, OUAZ begins back-to-back home games against perennial SAC power Langston on Oct. 23. After losing at Langston in their SAC debut in 2018, the Spirit have won two straight over the Lions, including a home win during the 2019 season.

Oct. 30 sees OUAZ host a team from Mexico for the second time in program history, as it welcomes Borregos Monterrey. A dynasty in Conferencia Premier, the “Wild Sheep” have won four conference titles since 2011.

The final road trip of the season follows as the Spirit play at Wayland Baptist on Nov. 6. The game will be the first time the teams have played in Plainview, Texas, after three meetings in Surprise.

OUAZ closes the regular season with a home tilt against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Nov. 13. The Aggies haven’t visited Spirit Field since they defeated OUAZ during the 2018 season.

The NAIA Football Championship Series begins on Nov. 20 at eight campus sites across the country.

The 2021 National Championship Game will be played on Dec. 18 at a location to be announced in the coming weeks.
