A New Leaf is looking to train volunteers to provide free tax return preparation for low- to moderate-income households through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

The best part is those who want to help don’t even have to have tax experience.

A New Leaf is looking for tax preparers, greeters/screeners and interpreters, and it will train its volunteers.

A tax preparer will complete basic 1040 tax returns and related schedules and also be able to answer tax law questions.

A greeter/screener will welcome in taxpayers and perform their screening process before they see the tax preparer.

An interpreter will provide bilingual assistance for Spanish-speaking clients who are seeking services.

VITA has more online information sessions available the rest of the month.

Puja Sachan,  program manager for VITA, said all the sessions are being held online.

The remaining dates are Thursday, Oct. 15; Saturday, Oct. 17; Tuesday, Oct. 20; Thursday, Oct. 22; Saturday, Oct. 24; and Tuesday, Oct. 27.
